The Choice Between Obama and Clinton Print E-mail
Written by Michael Hamel
Friday, 08 February 2008
Those who are looking for a major policy shift in the US have been given two choices, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.  Interestingly there is no clear winner just yet, and even more interesting, we’re hearing more and more about people who can’t seem to make a choice between the two candidates...

Pelosi's Middle East Trip Print E-mail
Written by AP
Saturday, 07 April 2007
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives who was returning Saturday from a trip through the Middle East, said she thinks her mission helped President George W. Bush because it showed the United States is unified against terrorism despite being divided over Iraq. Bush and other Republicans have been on the attack since Pelosi met in Damascus, Syria, with President Bashar Assad, with whom the Bush administration refuses to have any dealings. Bush's complaints about the Damascus meeting have been frequent and strong.

Call for a New Approach to Iraq Print E-mail
Written by DAVID E. SANGER
Wednesday, 06 December 2006
A bipartisan commission warned on Wednesday that “the situation in Iraq is grave and deteriorating,” and handed President Bush both a rebuke of his current strategy and a detailed blueprint for a fundamentally different approach, including the pullback of all American combat brigades over the next 15 months. In unusually sweeping and blunt language, the panel of 10 Republicans and Democrats issued 79 specific recommendations, including a call for direct negotiations with Syria and Iran and a clear declaration that the United States would reduce its support to Iraq unless that weak and divided government makes “substantial progress” on reconciliation and security in coming months.

Gas Prices Continue to Climb Print E-mail
Written by Bruce Edwards
Tuesday, 05 December 2006
Is it politics or just the marketplace at work? Whatever the reason, the steady decline in gasoline prices appears to be over. Prices have crept back up since Election Day, jumping 14 cents a gallon at one local station in less than a month. At the Stewart's Shop convenience store on West Street, self-serve regular gas was $2.28 a gallon on Friday — a store that traditionally is one of the cheapest places to buy gas in town. That's a spike of 14 cents since the November election.

U.S. Web Archive Is Said to Reveal a Nuclear Primer Print E-mail
Written by Michael Hamel
Friday, 03 November 2006

Last March, the federal government set up a Web site to make public a vast archive of Iraqi documents captured during the war. The Bush administration did so under pressure from Congressional Republicans who had said they hoped to “leverage the Internet” to find new evidence of the prewar dangers posed by Saddam Hussein.  But in recent weeks, the site has posted some documents that weapons experts say are a danger themselves: detailed accounts of Iraq's secret nuclear research before the 1991 Persian Gulf war. The documents, the experts say, constitute a basic guide to building an atom bomb. Last night, the government shut down the Web site after The New York Times asked about complaints from weapons experts and arms-control officials. A spokesman for John Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, said access to the site had been suspended “pending a review to ensure its content is appropriate for public viewing.”
